If you’re looking to have the space to explore issues and experiences that have impacted your life, I may be a good fit for you! I work with individuals struggling to navigate mood disorders, anxiety, history of trauma, and interpersonal distress. Additionally, as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have first-hand experience with the challenges and fears that come with developing, growing, and accepting your identity. I believe healing can happen through processing your experiences and receiving empathy, support, and honest feedback. My approach to therapy includes using skills from CBT, DBT, and CPT to help understand and change thoughts and behaviors. Together we will work to create a deeper understanding of unhelpful patterns that may be present in your life. I will aim to gently push you out of your comfort zone in order to avoid repeating these patterns. Finding the right therapist for you can be difficult and take time. If you think I may be able to help, please reach out to me to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. During that call we can address your questions, goals, and our compatibility. If we determine we are a good fit together, I’d be happy to schedule an appointment!

Looking for a compassionate, trauma-informed space to grow your sense of empowerment? My approach to therapy starts with building a therapeutic relationship with authenticity and humor. Let’s get to know each other to find out if we’re a good fit! I specialize in depression, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders in young adults and college students. I frequently work with queer and trans individuals, neurodiverse clients, and anyone hoping to reconnect with their emotions. I am confident in helping survivors of complex trauma revisit and process painful memories, then ground in the present moment before leaving the therapy office. I have received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Integrated Treatment for Complex Trauma. I also incorporate principles of mindfulness and somatic therapy that emphasize the mind-body connection. While my style is informed by these modalities, each session will be unique to your preferences, needs, and goals.

I work with teens, adults and couples, helping with navigating difficult life transitions, improving communication skills and emotional regulation, as well as building a healthy sense of self-worth. I utilize a strengths-based and compassionate approach. I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful agent for change, and that creating emotional safety within our relationship is paramount. I provide a safe and judgment-free environment so that you can learn to trust yourself and others in your life. I will work with you to help you gain self-awareness and to develop tools for creating the life you want to live. I specialize in treating relationship issues (including recovery from abuse), trauma, anxiety and depression. Together we will work on helping you to gain insight and to become more mindful of your emotions and responses to stress. I am a lifelong learner and am passionate about the work that I do. I know seeking therapy can be an overwhelming experience, and I would be happy to do a free consultation with you to address any questions or concerns you may have about the process. My name is Kaylee Van Gent, I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) providing psychotherapy services virtually in Pennsylvania. I have over 4 years of clinical experience across outpatient, residential, and school-based settings. In my clinical work, I often partner with clients experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, trauma, and identity and adjustment issues. While I see many different clients, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those who are navigating complex trauma, and those who have experienced religious/spiritual abuse or manipulation. I work with older adolescents, adults, and older adults. Therapy with me is grounded in deep empathy, creativity, curiosity, and a belief that meaningful change happens through safe, collaborative relationships. My goal is to help clients build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward meaningful, values-aligned change. Alongside my clinical work, I am also a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Pennsylvania State University where I am pursuing research interests of social justice and systemic change in counseling and religious/spiritual abuse. Through teaching, research, and practice, I value providing therapy that is affirming, trauma-informed, and responsive to each client’s unique culture, context, and experiences. Outside of work, I am a curious, playful, and nature-loving person. I love hiking with my partner, reading, and having a good laugh.

I DO TELEHEALTH I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief and loss and bipolar disorder, school/work adjustment and stress. You might feel overwhelmed and alone with so many obligations and responsibilities. Maybe you are under constant pressure and you don't see room for change. It's hard to see a possibility for change when you keep looking at the problem with one perspective, your own perspective. Let's talk about it, you are not alone. I have years experience in community health and private practice. I've worked with people at all levels of function, resources, financial support or crisis. The one true constant for those people I've been fortunate enough to work with is that personal resources are already inside them. Sometimes people have trouble accessing these strengths or they may be burred by noisy negative self-talk, worn out or unhelpful ideas about ourselves and other emotional baggage. I'm here to help so give me a call. I am currently offering telehealth sessions and this is covered by most insurances.

Helping people feel more connected, alive and easeful in a difficult world is what excites me about the therapeutic process. While living with mental health challenges, it is difficult to know how to get unstuck or even to remember a time when things felt okay. I work collaboratively with clients to build on their strengths and identify goals that align with their values. We all develop strategies for survival that can be limiting over time. We can create more options that go beyond old strategies through practicing new ways of relating, recognizing nervous system patterns and strengthening the mind-body connection. Some of the approaches and techniques I use include parts work, attachment theory, mind-body therapy, guided visualization, somatic and movement based therapy. I am trauma focused and informed with an understanding of how systemic oppression contributes to illness, especially for those whose identities are devalued or erased.

Students who come to work with me often share some things in common: -They're high-achievers. Driven, capable, and holding it together on the outside, but quietly exhausted, burned out, or feeling like something's missing on the inside. -They might be navigating anxiety or OCD, going through a major life transition, or questioning their purpose and what comes next. They may be working through shifts in their relationships, with a partner, with their parents, or with themselves. -Many have never asked for help before. They're used to being the one who has it together, and reaching out takes real courage for them. If any of that sounds familiar, reach out for a free 20-minute consultation and let's get started together :)

Therapy can be an intimidating journey, and getting started can often feel overwhelming. My hope is to build a therapeutic relationship that feels open, trusting, and supportive, so we can really focus on the challenges that have brought you to this point. Navigating young adulthood can be exhilarating and exciting, but can also lead to fear, worry, and challenges related to leaving home, taking on new roles, and learning about the world in a new way. Sometimes this transition can be hard as you figure out and learn about the different parts of yourself in emerging adulthood. I am excited to walk alongside you as you take this new step towards growth and healing. I believe my clients are experts on their lived experience. I believe my clients deserve trauma informed, inclusive, and affirming care.
