Welcome to Tona Therapy, a New York-based, virtual clinic, where we believe in the transformative power of warmth and healing. The word "Tona" originates from the ancient Aztec language, Nahuatl, which represents the concept of warmth, not only in a physical sense but also as a symbol of emotional comfort and connection. At Tona Therapy, we aim to create a nurturing and supportive environment where individuals can find Transformation, Openness, New beginnings, and Acceptance. Our dedicated team of therapists provides personalized services to help you navigate life's challenges. We offer a confidential and safe space for exploring emotions, healing past traumas, and discovering new paths towards growth and fulfillment.

One of the greatest gifts I've received in my 19+ years of private practice, has been to witness individuals as they move towards healing, and discover a more fulfilling, whole life. The hold an eating disorder, anxiety or trauma can have on a life is profound. To watch the grip loosen, and healing emerge, is very moving. I enjoy learning, and collecting new tools and skills to help my clients. After I obtained my MSW from New York University's School of Social Work, I completed postgraduate training in eating disorders and body image issues at the Women's Therapy Centre Institute, and in Trauma Studies at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. In addition, I completed a three-year training in Somatic Experiencing, and have assisted at professional trainings, helping other therapists to learn the model. I've led eating disorder groups for New York University's Counseling Center and various non-profit organizations, and have served as both a lecturer and group case consultant on eating disorders and trauma at postgraduate institutes in New York City. Interested in creating a culturally and spiritually sensitive practice, I completed a two-year program studying the world's major faith traditions, in an effort to better understand my clients from all backgrounds. I do not take any insurance. My fees range from $150-175 based on need, and I do not presently have a sliding scale beyond that range. If you have questions, or would like to request an appointment, please feel free to contact me. I offer ONLINE ONLY therapy in CA, CO and NY.

Counseling is a brave space for clients to explore their experience, rewrite their narratives, and build stronger relationships. I also believe in a holistic approach to therapy to ensure all aspects of a person’s life are considered. Through my own mental health journey, I have learned the significance of collaborating with mind, body, and spirit. As a Black woman, I understand the need to provide mental health services to Black and minority communities, and to help eliminate negative stigmas about mental health for people of color. I am a sex-positive individual, who encourages identities outside of heteronormativity. I aim to help clients embark on their own wellness journeys and to cultivate a quality of life that reflects their personal values, cultures, and beliefs. I will use elements of DBT, Somatic, AEDP, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing modalities to individualize treatment for each client’s specific needs and goals. I strive for a therapeutic relationship that can be the foundation for continual healing and growth, where learning takes the forefront and challenging discussions are encouraged. I am passionate and open to hearing my client's individual stories with fresh eyes, allowing them to connect and share their authentic selves in a non-judgmental environment.

MY VIEW ON THERAPY As a fellow New Yorker who balances personal and professional commitments, managing life’s multiple roles is a necessity. Therapy can serve as the missing link to one’s happiness and future success. In our work together, discovering how to live exactly the life that you want is paramount. I practice Holistic Psychology and feel passionate about making science, wellness, and psychology accessible tools everyone can utilize in their lives to cultivate the best version of themselves. As a trained psychologist, I provide integrative strengths-based psychotherapy. My approach is grounded in scientifically backed, evidence-based psychology methods. Through our work together, you’ll unlock your confidence, understand yourself more fully, and add coping skills to your toolbox to use for the rest of your life. You’ll look within to navigate your life and make decisions moving forward. MY STYLE I’ve worked with creatives, professionals, CEOs, college students, and entrepreneurs. I work best with people who take an active role in discovering fulfillment. I’m caring, curious, warm, and interactive. I’m highly motivated to help you transform your life and get your needs met. I believe that everyone is capable of thriving. With an inherent ability to see the good in everyone, I have always loved connecting with people and helping them discover their internal goodness, vitality, and strengths. We’ll balance the seriousness with laughter, and you’ll start to notice changes in your mood from our first session. When not in the office, I am facilitating meditation and mindfulness workshops in schools, clinics, and the community. Weather permitting, I can be found at various parks throughout Manhattan enjoying the natural beauty, a good book, or others’ dogs. MY PROFESSIONAL TRAINING I have worked in urban and suburban public and private schools, community mental health clinics, and outpatient clinics providing therapeutic services to individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. After years in the field, I’ve honed my expertise and continue regular training in these areas: anxiety and stress reduction, relational concerns (family, romantic, peer, work relationships), college transitions, career/executive coaching, low self-esteem, and mood disorders. Grounded in my background, training, and passions, my work draws upon mindfulness, positive psychology, neuroscience, nutrition, integrative medicine, contemplative practices, and other forms of holistic health. My work allows others to navigate challenges, heal from life’s stressors, and most importantly, thrive in their lives. I work with people of all ages, from early childhood through adults, as well as families, groups, teams, and communities. I am thoughtful and personalize my treatment based on the varying needs of each client. College can be both exciting and overwhelming, a time of exploration, pressure, and major life transitions. I work with students who are learning how to balance it all: academics, relationships, identity, and the uncertainty of what comes next. Whether you’re feeling anxious, stuck, homesick, or unsure about your path, therapy can be a space to slow down, get curious, and reconnect with yourself. I’m currently pursuing my M.A. in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at NYU and earned my B.S. from Emerson College. My approach is person-centered and collaborative, guided by your unique strengths, values, and goals. I often draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps us move through self-doubt, perfectionism, or comparison, and focus on what really matters to you. I especially enjoy working with women, those navigating relationship challenges, stress, or women’s health concerns. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you can learn to manage difficult emotions, build resilience, and feel more grounded in who you are, both on campus and beyond. Sessions are available in person or virtually. Feel free to reach out by email or phone with any questions or to schedule a free consultation. I have flexible availability.

I take a holistic approach to healing, focusing on Psychotherapy, In my 15 years of experience working with people diagnosed with mental illnesses, and severe traumas, I observed that treatments often ignored holistic methods to healing. Through listening, caring, and working together with my clients, I recognized that some emotional and psychological issues are often managed by initiating small life changes and making healthier choices. My goal and passion is to assist and empower my clients to identify the changes they choose to make to have the life they have desired. I will assist them in achieving their goals while supporting them as they carry out their plans to live a healthier life. Please notes sessions can be face to face or virtual.

I combine compassionate care with evidence-based therapies to enable you to set and meet goals, feel better, and live the life you want and deserve. My goal is to provide you with a caring, comfortable, and supportive environment to discuss your concerns and help you develop new skills to improve your quality of life. Some of my clients only require a few sessions while others may benefit from longer-term counseling. I offer video therapy to patients using a secure video chat platform. This allows you to see a therapist from the comfort and convenience of your own home. When I'm not seeing patients, I am a professor at Rutgers. My specialties include: depression, anxiety, insomnia, bereavement, difficulties adjusting to new life circumstances (e.g., break ups, new jobs, graduation, medical diagnoses), stress related to caregiving, and behavioral management of medical issues. I am results-oriented -- together we will track your progress to ensure that therapy is actually having a positive effect on your life. If you're thinking about therapy, reach out to me and we can chat to see if I'd be a good fit for you.

Maybe you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, lost in thought, thinking of the worst-case scenarios, and avoiding tasks or responsibilities. You want to support yourself through this and you’re ready to feel connected to your body, trust yourself, speak your truth, and show up in the world aligned, authentically and connected. Working with me involves a body focused approach. You will better understand what your body is communicating to you and gently release what the body is storing from past experiences. Suffering from anxiety can be like falling into quicksand, the more you fight it, the deeper you sink. Do you feel lost in your struggle with anxiety or find it difficult articulate how you are feeling? Perhaps you tend to take care of others but can’t figure out how to take care of yourself? I believe you have the power within to change your life story and psychotherapy is the tool to help you lift yourself up. Imagine being the author and the main character in your life story, with the ability to create change and move towards a more meaningful life. Narrative therapists like me use stories as a vehicle for healing, as the way we all experience life is largely defined by our own internal narrative. Sometimes, other people or negative events can write chapters in our life’s story. My goal is, through open and trusting dialogue, to help you reauthor your story, take control of your narrative, and heal. I know personally how vulnerable it can be to look for help. That’s why I bring optimism, hope, perseverance, and compassion to my clinical work and will walk alongside you in your journey to greater insight, self-awareness, and growth. I am currently accepting new clients, so when you are ready, reach out and see if we would be a good fit to work together!

Hello! I'm Kat, and I'm here to be your go-to cheerleader and confidante. Welcome to a space where you can breathe a little easier and find the support you need to navigate the twists and turns of college life. My journey into counseling? I started with a passion for music, earning a double B.A. in Music Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College. Those years taught me so much about creativity and the power of education to inspire and uplift. But my path took a turn when I felt called to explore counseling as a way to help others in a deeper capacity. I pursued an MA in Counseling from The Family Institute at Northwestern University. It's there that I discovered my passion for holistic well-being and specialized in Brainspotting—an incredible modality to bust through performance/creative blocks and tackle the harder stuff like trauma. In our sessions, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment where you can truly be yourself. I firmly believe in your ability to overcome challenges and shape the life you desire. Therapy doesn't have to be all serious and introspective. We'll sprinkle in some humor, passion, and empathy along the way. So, if you're ready to level up and tackle whatever life throws your way, I'm here for it. Shoot me a message and let's kickstart this journey together.

Do you find yourself relentlessly pursuing the expectations of others without considering what you expect or want for yourself? Early adulthood can be tumultuous, with major life transitions, evolving relationship dynamics, and challenging academic or professional responsibilities. Frequent changes and uncertainty may leave you feeling burned out and may trigger stress, frustration, or symptoms of anxiety or depression. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by everything that we believe we need to do and need to be. I will help you challenge your assumptions which may have you feeling stuck. My goal is to provide you with a welcoming space to be heard and to process your thoughts and feelings. Let’s explore new perspectives, answer thought-provoking questions, and examine your self-talk. Insights from those discussions will help us identify behavioral patterns which may be contributing to your distress. We will collaboratively develop a plan to adjust those reactions to create balance in your life, while prioritizing what is practical and important to you. This personalized approach will help you build confidence, manage stress, and effectively communicate with those you care about or work closely with. You and I will leverage your strengths to develop a more sustainable lifestyle with meaning and purpose. MSW, Columbia University BS, Cornell University

I work with clients who experience trauma, whether it is childhood sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or more recent traumatic events. You might wish to forget about it by not talking about it, but it often comes back and “haunts” you. The best way to deal with a “ghost” is to talk about it and take away its power over you. It is normal that you want to avoid it. However, the worst part of Trauma is that it continues. I would like to help you work through it, separate the past from the present so you can move on with your life. I am also very much interested in working on Women’s Issues, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. You might feel compelled to behave in certain ways, and you don't understand your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Together, we will explore what works for you and what doesn’t by listening and seeking understanding. I will help reflect on any parts you did not understand before. With more information about yourself, you will be able to make better choices. I partner with teens and adults to navigate the complexities of trauma, intimate partner violence, and self-harm. Together, we work to understand fear, anger, shame, guilt, and envy, these difficult and painful emotions, rebuild your self-esteem, and cultivate a sense of resilience. I am licensed in New York and New Jersey and offer both online therapy and in-person sessions at my office located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin

The decision to seek out therapy often happens during a particularly difficult moment in life. Whatever led you to pursue therapy, it should feel like a safe environment where you are treated as the greatest expert of your own life experience. I bring extensive knowledge of LGBTQ+ communities, as well as expertise on the unique issues faced by non-monogamous people, sex workers, and kink/BDSM-aligned individuals. Therapy with me is a collaborative, relational process, where it is my goal to provide you with support and tools to navigate life's challenges. I have an eclectic therapy style, but primarily employ Internal Family Systems (IFS), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic theory to support our work. The process of finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. My goal is to ensure that you have the best support you can get, wherever that may be. I invite you to reach out to me to schedule an initial consultation call, and to see how I can best support you as you walk down this path of healing. You've already taken the first step.
