I provide a safe, open environment to talk about any and all experiences or feelings. Some clients come for help through a short time period, or want to look at longer term issues and to make changes in their lives. Sometimes, it is simply to talk with an unbiased, nonjudgmental listener. Whichever it may be, I am privileged to take the journey with you. I will understand you as as a whole person, rather than a series of symptoms and diagnoses. I will pay attention to your background, your strengths, and the way we work together in addition to the presenting problem/s. I have worked in a variety of settings in the area, from several college counseling centers, community mental health facilities, and private practice. I draw upon this diverse training and experience to work with my clients.

Your present need not be your future! Life isn’t always easy. Today you may be anxious, depressed, stuck, overwhelmed, flunking out, and/or obsessed. Tomorrow can be different. The path to a better future may involve courageously exploring emotions or it may involve learning and practicing new habits or strategies. Sometimes little changes cause dramatic results. My specialty is working with you to determine what will work best for you. To this task I bring great depth and breadth of experience. I was actually a college dropout before I became a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist after first becoming an Educational & Career Counselor & then applying my knowledge & skills on myself. I’ve been in private practice as a therapist for over 30 years, have consulted to hospitals for decades as a Clinical Neuropsychologist, taught the graduate course Neuropsychology to psychology doctoral students for 18 years, created the graduate course Nutrition, Brain and Behavior, provided lectures on neuropsychology for medical students and residents through Harvard Medical School’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and created many continuing education courses for psychologists and lectured college counselors nationwide on improving college performance. I’ve done thousands of assessments encompassing ADHD, learning disability, autism, memory disorders, executive dysfunction, anxiety disorders and depression, yet, despite this I do not think in terms of these labels. Most sessions begin with screening not to assign a diagnosis but determination of the type of psychotherapy or lifestyle changes with which you are likely to feel most comfortable. Take the first step towards a better tomorrow.

With a wide range of clinical interventions and treatment approaches, we develop goals that are most helpful and tailored for each individual client (adult, teen, adolescent, or child), family, and couple based on their presenting concerns and needs. Is Therapy right for me? Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore, reflect upon, and work to overcome issues or circumstances in your life with someone who can be objective yet very much invested in you becoming stronger, healthier, and happier. Counseling as a process is meant to challenge you to face and work through any difficulties you are experiencing because of either past, present, or future concerns. It is typically a weekly meeting between you and your counselor that gives you the space to have an open dialogue about what you are facing, confront your feelings in a more honest way, or to decide how you want to approach solving a problem in your life. The length of counseling is unique for each individual, depending upon on your needs and goals. Essentially, the counseling process is driven by you. We have two therapists at our facility, Bushra Husain, DSW LCSW, Maryum Khwaja, LCSW.
