Therapists for college students near 02138
College can be one of the most exciting and overwhelming seasons of your life. You may be adjusting to being away from home, navigating new relationships, questioning your major, managing academic pressure, or quietly carrying anxiety, depression, or past trauma that hasn’t had space to heal. On the outside, it can look like everyone else is handling it just fine — but inside, you might feel stuck, exhausted, unmotivated, or unsure of who you’re becoming. If you’re in that space, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to work through it by yourself. I work with college students who are in the middle of real life transitions — identity shifts, relationship changes, academic stress, family expectations, grief, trauma, and the quiet weight of self-doubt. Depression during college often doesn’t look like “sad all the time.” It can show up as procrastination, isolation, low motivation, difficulty focusing, or feeling disconnected from the person you used to be. Trauma can show up in relationships, in trust, in sleep, or in how hard you are on yourself. Together, we slow things down. We make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. We identify patterns that are keeping you stuck and build practical tools that help you feel more steady, confident, and grounded. My approach is collaborative and straightforward. I don’t believe in sitting back silently while you struggle to find words. We talk. We process. We challenge unhelpful thoughts. We work through emotional blocks. I integrate approaches such as CBT, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based strategies to help you build resilience while honoring your story. My goal is not just symptom relief — it’s helping you understand yourself better so you can move forward with clarity and confidence. College is a time of growth — but growth can feel uncomfortable. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, numb, stuck, or unsure about your direction, therapy can be a space to reset and regain momentum. You deserve support as you figure out who you are and who you want to become. If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to Request an Initial Appointment and begin therapy. You don’t have to wait until things get worse. Let’s work together to help you regain balance, rebuild confidence, and move through this season with strength.
Hi! My name is Katie Kalina, a licensed independent clinician with over 6 years of experience. I believe that everyone deserves to be heard and healed, and that as your therapist, it's my job to meet you exactly where you're at. One of my specialties is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Eye movement (or other bilateral stimulation) is used to work on one memory at a time for the mind to heal. I have worked with individuals and groups of all ages, from children to teens and adults through anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, body image issues, relationship issues, and anger management. As your therapist, I will make it my mission to make you feel at home in our sessions. Once we meet, I will help you set goals and devise a plan that will make you transform in the ways that you wish to. Looking forward to completing this journey with you and bringing you ongoing success. In my practice, I specialize in working with adults who often find themselves caught in recurring patterns in life. This could manifest as challenges with self-esteem, self-doubt, confidence, or a loss of identity. Through the therapeutic relationship, the aim is to deepen your understanding of yourself. Change can be a formidable task, and while gaining insight into your challenges is a significant step, fostering actual change and improving your relationship with yourself and others can present a different set of difficulties.

Do you worry about the future? Would you describe yourself as having difficulty with perfectionism, relationships with family & friends, social anxiety or identity? We are a small practice with two therapists--Spencer & Carlie who love providing therapy to young adults as they navigate this exciting and nerve wracking time moving from childhood and dependence to adulthood and independence. We often work with young adults who may have had therapy in high school but did not previously find therapy helpful (often due to a lack of agency in picking their therapist, misunderstanding or invalidation of their experiences, disruptions in confidentiality or lack of concrete coping skills/goals worked on). We provide a reparative experience where clients feel genuinely supported and able to advocate and ask for what they need. We use a variety of different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Based Therapy, EMDR, Goal-oriented Therapy and Mindfulness. Our clients often move towards a feeling of confidence, improved relationships and belief in their abilities to handle any challenges that may come their way.

My Approach & Values Hope and the belief that it’s possible to recover are the foundation of the work I do. You deserve and can expect a full recovery. Keep in mind that medications are not the only modality available to treat mental illness. Many don’t experience full remission of symptoms with the available psychopharmacological treatment alone. However, there is empirical data that shows the efficacy of augmenting medication with psychotherapy and lifestyle changes. Simple changes aid individuals in regaining a meaningful life, even when recovery stalls. The goal is to gain control of your life back with emphasis on managing symptoms and building resilience. Some thoughts to keep in mind include the questions listed below. - How can we move forward? - What new goals could be set? - How can we get your new life back on track? - Can we work together to develop your support system? - What skills can you learn to cope with periods of crisis?
As a neurodivergent clinician, I have found myself particularly well suited to working with clients with ADHD, AuDHD, PTSD, PDA and/or who are autistic. I also have over a 15 years of experience working with trauma survivors and LGBTQ+ communities. Many of my clients found past experiences of talk therapy unhelpful or helpful only as “maintenance” while larger issues were neglected. I focus on two specific therapies, EMDR and IFS, that go deeper to address underlying issues. I also center the unique needs of neurodivergent clients and include ways to help manage distress and recognize stressors. For many neurodivergent clients, therapy approaches such as CBT have backfired. For example, treating autistic burnout with strategies from CBT to manage depression can actually worsen exhaustion and burnout. Similarly, using exposure therapy to address anxiety primarily caused by social and sensory issues related to ADHD or autism may cause further distress. I center neurodivergent experiences in my approach to therapy and help clients explore strategies to reduce sensory and emotional overload and recover from burnout. If you are finding yourself spending your energy just trying to get through the day, it is time to start working towards a better future. Let's work together to help you level up your life.
