Therapists for college students near University of Texas at Austin
Knowing from an early age that I wanted to connect with people on a deeper level, a career in counseling became a must. I was born and grew up in Belgium and moved to the states as a pre-teen, which was a tough transition at times. I quickly discovered my love for connecting with others was no different on the other side of the world. This strengthened my belief that cultural background, race, sex, age, etc does not make a difference in our suffering but that there is hope for each one of us. It is my belief that the difficulties that we face stem from our inner dialogue and extreme responses in acknowledgment to triggering situations. It is my goal to help the client explore such thoughts and reactions by developing coping skills and new ways of thinking in order for the client to feel more at ease and happier in life. I previously had the privilege of leading groups for those suffering from alcohol and drug addiction, as well as emotional dysregulation issues, and have discovered an appreciation for walking through such a challenging time with the client. It is my hope to do the same for you.
I am one of the leading experts in pre-surgical psychological evaluations. I have authored a book titled "Psychological Assessment of Surgical Candidates: Evidence-Based Procedures and Practices" and actively engage in society work associated with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery to advance training and science related to bariatric surgery. My clinical training experiences have largely centered around assessing the intersections of medical/health, psychological, and social aspects of individuals to facilitate successful outcomes in medical settings. With training from some of the leading experts in psychological assessment, I am also proficient in conducting disability/worker's compensation evaluations, pre-employment screening, and general psychodiagnostic evaluations in addition to pre-surgical assessments. I am licensed in the state of Texas (#38086) and hold a PsyPact license to practice in other states. My research focuses on understanding how psychological factors contribute to medical outcomes. I have over 60 peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on pre-surgical psychological evaluations and their predictive value for various outcomes. I use my research findings to assist patients in managing risk factors before and after surgery to optimize their outcomes. Additionally, I have a keen interest in psychological assessment, particularly in the use and study of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in both research and practice. I have been recognized by several national organizations with early-career research awards for my contributions to pre-surgical psychological evaluations. Currently, I am the Principal Investigator on novel psychological interventions for Type 2 Diabetes. I also serve as an Associate Editor for two esteemed journals in the field – Psychological Assessment and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.
Have been looking for love in all the wrong places? Maybe you are super tired of swiping right but only ending up hurt. Is your anxiety at an all time high? Do you find it hard to concentrate on the things you have to do or find yourself reading the same line over and over again. What about that voice in your head? The one that says you are never good enough. You keep trying to shut it up by performing, being perfect, and overachieving but nothing seems to work. You try and make everyone happy by never saying no, but you are just left holding the bag, feeling resentful. What if I told you, that you could stop hustling. That you are worthy of love and belonging, right now, as is. I know you call BS but that is your past tricking you into believing you aren't. You can put down the mask. You can learn to say no. You can feel safe in relationships. Instead of feeling empty, you can feel alive. Hell, maybe even some joy. I love working with young people who want to stop being so hard on themselves, want to stop hustling for love in all the wrong places, stop surviving on little sleep, Cheetos, and weed to being able to have healthy relationships while saying no, taking actual care of themselves, and know they are worthy. If you’re a college student feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck, you’re not alone and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. Many students I work with appear capable and driven on the outside, yet internally feel exhausted, pressured, or unsure they can keep going at the same pace. Constant stress, anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, or self-doubt can quietly build until it starts to affect your mental health, relationships, sleep, or academic performance. I work with college students and young adults who are navigating high expectations, academic pressure, and major life transitions. You may be adjusting to college, questioning your direction, struggling to balance responsibilities, or feeling like you are never doing enough. Therapy can be a place to slow things down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and begin feeling more grounded and in control again. My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and focused on helping you feel better in your day-to-day life. I take time to understand your experiences so we can identify what is contributing to your stress and develop practical tools you can actually use. Together, we work on managing anxiety, reducing overwhelm, strengthening self-esteem, and building healthier ways to cope so you can move forward with greater clarity and confidence. Clients often describe me as calm, approachable, and easy to talk to. I aim to create a space where you do not have to have everything figured out and where you can be honest without fear of judgment. Whether this is your first time in therapy or you are returning with new goals, you will be met with understanding, consistency, and support. Alongside coping skills, we focus on self-reflection and insight to help you understand patterns that may be holding you back and create meaningful, lasting change. If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right next step or want to see if we’re a good fit, you’re welcome to schedule a 15-minute consultation. This gives you a chance to ask questions, share what you’re looking for, and decide whether working together feels right for you. Reaching out for support does not mean you are failing. For many students, it is the step that helps them feel steadier, more confident, and better equipped to handle the demands of college life. You deserve support during this chapter, and you do not have to go through it alone.

Hi, Are you the ‘good’ daughter/son, the ‘good’ wife/husband, or the ‘good’ mother/father? Does your life look amazing from the outside but feels less than okay on the inside? It’s important that you have the support of someone who sees and understands you and who can respond to what you are going through. I want to help you discover why you are feeling the way you are, and more importantly, teach you the tools to help move you away from suffering, and towards inner peace. As your therapist I will be beside you every step of the way. Together we will navigate towards the joy, happiness, and self-acceptance you deserve. I specialize in brain-based therapies, such as Brainspotting; these specific modalities of treatment focus on the neurobiological variables (neuro networks) of each person to create change, specifically - neuro experiential change. Because understanding the why of behavior is not enough, for new behavior to be created new neural pathways need to be formed. I'm a bilingual in Spanish clinician with 20+ years of experience working in mental health with extensive training and credentials. However, I believe that you are the expert in your own inner world, and I am here to be a safe, grounding, and validating companion. “Nothing could ever be broken that we can't fix together" - Mirabel from Encanto
