I work best with students who are doing their best but still feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally tired. Many are balancing school, relationships, and personal pressures, and may struggle with overthinking, self-doubt, or expressing their needs. Therapy is a warm, supportive space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. Together, we focus on helping you feel more grounded, understood, and confident as you navigate college life.
Joanna Davis
Hello, I’m Joanna, a compassionate and experienced psychotherapist dedicated to helping adults, college students, and student-athletes navigate life’s challenges. College can be an exciting time, but balancing academic pressure, relationships, independence, finances, athletic responsibilities, and expectations for the future can also feel overwhelming. Whether you are experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship concerns, co-dependency, low self-esteem, emotional regulation difficulties, or everyday stress, I provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood. I also provide therapy for athletes experiencing performance anxiety, difficulty balancing academics and athletics, burnout, injuries, identity concerns, low confidence, and stress related to competition or team expectations. Together, we will explore the challenges you are facing, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical tools to strengthen your coping skills, confidence, emotional well-being, and overall performance. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to your individual needs. I earned my degrees from Northern Kentucky University with honors, specializing in Trauma-Informed Care, and I am currently pursuing my doctorate to expand my clinical expertise. I incorporate a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to ensure that treatment is personalized to your experiences and goals. You do not have to navigate college, athletics, or life’s challenges alone. Taking the first step toward therapy is a courageous decision, and I am here to support you throughout the process. Together, we can work toward helping you heal, grow, build resilience, and create a life that feels balanced and meaningful.

For Students Wrestling with Identity College is supposed to be where you figure out who you are—but that’s not always easy. Maybe your family, culture, or faith told you one version of who you should be, and it doesn’t match how you actually feel inside. You’ve tried to belong, but it can feel like parts of you have to stay hidden. I specialize in working with students exploring cultural, spiritual, gender, or sexual identity. Together, we’ll make space for your questions, doubts, and discoveries without judgment. Therapy isn’t about fitting into a box—it’s about helping you feel sturdy in who you are, even when it feels messy or uncertain. If you’re ready for a place where all of you is welcome, reach out today. Let’s start with a conversation about what you’re carrying and what you hope to find.
Odira Ughanze, LPC
Hi there—I’m Odira, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience guiding students and young adults through life’s twists and turns. I understand how hard it can be to fit therapy into a busy schedule, so I offer sessions only in the evenings and on weekends, whether we meet in person in Abilene, TX, or connect virtually across Texas and Colorado. Many students wrestle with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and relationship ups and downs. That’s why I blend person-centered, holistic, and eclectic approaches to create a space that’s uniquely yours. You know your story best—I’m here to listen, offer fresh perspectives, and partner with you to build practical tools for navigating transitions, strengthening connections, and fostering growth. Over the years, I’ve led behavioral health teams and delivered therapy in community and clinical settings—experience that’s deepened my understanding of the pressures you face on campus and beyond. My passion is creating a warm, collaborative environment where you can explore your strengths, cultivate resilience, and gain clarity. Ready to get started during those after-work or weekend hours? Rebecca Frost, MD
I am a board certified psychiatrist and provide combined psychotherapy and medication treatment. My patients are typically looking for therapy to address concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. They are also often looking for support with evidence-based medication treatment. I listen carefully to understand the difficulties that bring someone to treatment and to understand their goals. I am collaborative in my approach. I approach psychotherapy from a psychodynamic perspective, where the goal is to increase understanding and insight into thoughts, feelings, and behavior. When we can understand ourselves better, we can then change patterns that may be getting in our way. This type of therapy can often lead to lasting change. Please note that because my practice is telehealth only, I do not prescribe controlled substances (for example, stimulants for ADHD or medications such as Xanax or Ativan for anxiety).

The go-to treatment modalities that I've found most helpful are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Talk Therapy, and Solutions-Focused Therapy. As a therapist, I believe in empathy. Unconditional positive regard is high on my list of priorities when interacting with clients of mine. I believe that we are all, more alike than different. I seek to rid stigmas and to do away with labels. We are greater, together! I seek to make therapy feel easy peasy! I take an eclectic approach when dealing with each client because everyone is different. At times, I blend treatment modalities in an effort to meet clients where they are, while finding what works. Easy dialogue is the vehicle that makes things cohesive. I'm a therapist with Octave and Evernorth Behavioral Care Group. Octave is a mental health practice providing high-quality care covered by multiple insurances. Evernorth Behavioral Care Group is a behavioral health provider group in-network with Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth. For my availability, please reach out to Octave’s team by emailing or calling.
Samantha Johnson
Hello! I’m a therapist in private practice, and I work best with students and young adults who feel like they’re carrying a lot on the inside while trying to keep up on the outside. Many of the clients who are a great fit for my practice are navigating anxiety, low mood, self-esteem struggles, emotional dysregulation, grief and loss, the impact of past painful experiences, and major life transitions (starting college, changing majors, moving away from home, new relationships). If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like you “should be doing better” but can’t seem to turn it around, you’re not alone. Students often reach out when they’re: • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly “on edge.” • Stuck in overthinking, perfectionism, or procrastination • Feeling down, numb, unmotivated, or like it’s hard to care about things you used to enjoy • Burned out from juggling school, work, family, or big life changes • Struggling with confidence, self-worth, or a harsh inner critic • Having trouble with relationships, boundaries, or communication • Trying to heal after a painful experience, or coping with grief and loss In our sessions, we’ll slow things down and make sense of what you’re feeling, what’s been happening, and what you want to change. My approach is flexible based on your needs, but I often use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns, understand how they affect your feelings and choices, and practice new ways of coping that fit your life. We’ll set clear goals, build practical skills you can use between sessions, and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe, especially if you’re working through trauma or loss. My style is warm, straightforward, and collaborative. You don’t need to know what to say or have a “perfect” reason to start therapy. If you’re looking for a space that feels supportive and real, where you can be honest, get tools that help, and feel more like yourself, I’d be glad to connect. We can start with what’s most urgent and go at a pace that feels manageable.

My approach is one of empathy and compassion where I will hold space for all of your emotions while you navigate through difficult life events. My counseling style is warm, nurturing, and person-centered and I use interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - helping you work toward acceptance and awareness of the full range of your emotions, thoughts, and sensations in order to better understand yourself. Some of the specific issues I address include eating disorders, self-image, body-image dissatisfaction, life transitions, and anxiety/depression. I have experience working with those in recovery from eating disorders, with a focus on binge-eating and emotional eating, and body-image issues. I believe that through a deeper understanding of ourselves, we can begin to make decisions with clarity. During our work together, we will work on developing a better understanding of your values, in order to live a life with more purpose and meaning.

To me, therapy is about meeting you where you are at. We can 'sit in the suck' and commiserate but from there we will build up! This is a collaborative relationship; we are colleagues working towards the same goal. I won’t try to impress you with fancy medical jargon or bore you with a lecture. I am a simple person with humble beginnings. I started my career in healthcare at 17 years old as a CNA (Certified nursing assistant) working nights at a tiny rural hospital. I moved into the Chicago suburbs to continue my education but maintained my CNA certificate by working afternoons and nights at a long-term care facility. I graduated with my Master’s in Social work in 2016 from Aurora University. During my initial years as a social worker I worked in mental health case management and hospice. Two years later I received my Licensed Clinical Social Work for the state of Illinois. Not even a month later in 2019 I moved to North Texas where it took me several more year of training before I received my clinical licensure for Texas. During that time I took several different positions to gain a better understanding of all the kinds of work a social worker is capable of. Those positions were intensive outpatient for mental health and addictions, intake, utilization review for a psychiatric hospital and home health. After gaining clinical licensure in Texas, I concentrated my focus to one on one telehealth with adults while they navigate difficult life changes. When I am not working I enjoy cooking, hiking, competing in dog sports, and tending to my plants and home with my spouse, 7 dogs, and one very old rabbit. I volunteer with the local animal shelter working with animals at risk of euthanasia due to behavior issues or medical concerns and in rescue rehabilitating struggling pets. As a clinician I use aspects of cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy and am considered person centered. I regularly provide handouts, suggest videos, or give homework to encourage therapeutic thought and action outside of our sessions. I look forward to meeting you and being part of the healing chapter of your story!

I welcome the uniqueness that each person brings into the counseling relationship. When working with my clients, I am ultimately headed towards creating a trusting environment that is conducive to exploring and decreasing emotional distress, maladaptive behaviors and increasing personal emotional wellness. I embrace cultural competency, and I am committed to understanding the importance of my client's worldview, which I believe is vital to the therapeutic process. I also believe the instillation of hope is fundamental in order to acquire the motivation needed to make change.

You may feel disconnected from yourself—questioning your worth, your decisions, or your place in relationships. Perhaps your inner dialogue is critical, self-doubt feels persistent, or you find yourself repeating the same unhelpful relationship patterns. As an individual or as a couple, you want more than symptom relief. You want clarity, confidence, and healthier ways of relating—to yourself and to each other. You’re looking for a space to slow down, make sense of what’s weighing on you, and begin showing up differently in your life and relationships. I take a trauma-informed, integrative approach tailored to your needs. I believe insight fosters understanding, clarity, and awareness—and once awareness is present, change becomes a choice. Together, we’ll explore the thought patterns and relational dynamics shaping how you see yourself and show up in your relationships. Depending on your goals, we may explore how past experiences affect the present or focus on practical strategies for current challenges. I work with individuals and couples facing self-esteem concerns, identity struggles, unhelpful thinking patterns, relationship stress, burnout, and life transitions.
