You’re juggling a lot. Classes, work, friends, family, money, maybe figuring out who you are and what you actually want from life. And somewhere in the middle of all that, your mental health is supposed to “keep up.” My practice is here for that in-between space—when things aren’t exactly falling apart, but they’re definitely not okay. I work with college students who are dealing with anxiety, overthinking, burnout, relationship stress, grief, and big life transitions. Together, we slow things down, sort through the noise, and build practical tools you can actually use in real life. Sessions are judgment-free, conversational, and tailored to you—no pressure to be “put together” or say the perfect thing. You can come as you are: exhausted, unsure, overwhelmed, or just curious about therapy. If you’re ready to feel a little less stuck and a little more like yourself again, you’re in the right place.

Hi, my name is Sarah Hoffman, and I’m a licensed counselor in Houston, TX. I help anxious and overwhelmed students struggling with the stress of school and daily life find ways to take control of their lives and feel better. I help my clients better understand themselves and their minds, harness their strengths, and embrace their full selves so they can live the life they want. I’m an affirming therapist and have extensive experience supporting students who identify as neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, transgender, gender expansive, BIPOC, migrant/immigrant/child of immigrants, or who had a multicultural upbringing. I will celebrate, support, honor, and work to understand all parts of you, including your cultures, values, beliefs, and many identities. It’s important you feel safe to bring your full self into our sessions. My specialties include ADHD, neurodivergence, anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. Sometimes, life feels like an endless battle and a constant game of catch-up that leaves you feeling drained and overwhelmed. Some days, even the simple act of getting out of bed might feel impossible as you struggle to keep track of everything on your ever-growing to-do list. It feels like you're always running late, forgetting important things, and it's hard to concentrate on anything. Even though people around you might think you're doing okay because you hide how you feel and put on a brave face, the truth is that inside, you feel like you're falling apart. Life feels confusing and overwhelming. I understand how the pressure to succeed and the fear of messing up and failing can be paralyzing and suffocating. It’s draining to feel like you’re always on edge. You want to enjoy your life and have a chance to catch your breath. You’re starting to realize that maybe this isn’t how everyone feels, and you want to find a way to feel better. I know how hard it is to figure out how to balance the responsibilities and expectations of life. I get what it's like to feel different, and that life is more challenging for you than for others without knowing why. I understand the exhaustion of figuring out who you are and where you fit in the world. From personal experience, I also know how much it helps to work with an affirming and supportive counselor when you're struggling. Counseling is an investment in yourself. To get the most from your counseling sessions, you need a counselor you trust, who works to understand you, and has the training to help you reach your counseling goals. I worked in education for many years, both as a teacher and school counselor, and I understand the pressure of balancing school, family, friends, extracurriculars, work, and life. Working so hard to stay on top of everything is tiring. I became a licensed counselor because I wanted to help students reduce their feelings of stress and anxiety and find joy and peace in the chaos of everyday life. I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to the tools, knowledge, and self-understanding needed to live a meaningful and choice-filled life. Everyone deserves support navigating life’s challenges. My approach combines strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. During our counseling sessions, I’ll provide you with personalized tools and strategies to help you take control of your life and handle life’s daily challenges with ease. When you better understand yourself and how your mind works, you can finally let go of the feeling you're not measuring up and start waking up feeling confident and energized for the day. Through our work together in counseling, you can start to change how you view yourself and shed the weight of your worries. When you better understand yourself and how your mind works, you can finally let go of that feeling that you're not measuring up. If at any point, you find our counseling sessions aren't working, I'll adjust my approach or help connect you with appropriate referrals. Your comfort and progress are my top priorities in counseling. I want to help you trade stress for a more fulfilling life and find your genuine smile. To learn more about working with me, you can visit my website and reach out to schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation. During this call, I'll let you know how I can help, or I'll do my best to connect you with someone who can. I want to help you stop feeling anxious and overwhelmed and start finding balance and joy in your life.

I am one of the leading experts in pre-surgical psychological evaluations. I have authored a book titled "Psychological Assessment of Surgical Candidates: Evidence-Based Procedures and Practices" and actively engage in society work associated with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery to advance training and science related to bariatric surgery. My clinical training experiences have largely centered around assessing the intersections of medical/health, psychological, and social aspects of individuals to facilitate successful outcomes in medical settings. With training from some of the leading experts in psychological assessment, I am also proficient in conducting disability/worker's compensation evaluations, pre-employment screening, and general psychodiagnostic evaluations in addition to pre-surgical assessments. I am licensed in the state of Texas (#38086) and hold a PsyPact license to practice in other states. My research focuses on understanding how psychological factors contribute to medical outcomes. I have over 60 peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on pre-surgical psychological evaluations and their predictive value for various outcomes. I use my research findings to assist patients in managing risk factors before and after surgery to optimize their outcomes. Additionally, I have a keen interest in psychological assessment, particularly in the use and study of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in both research and practice. I have been recognized by several national organizations with early-career research awards for my contributions to pre-surgical psychological evaluations. Currently, I am the Principal Investigator on novel psychological interventions for Type 2 Diabetes. My goal is to help clients who have trauma, specifically medical trauma, manage their symptoms and learn how to navigate life again! I am most interested in helping people connect to their mind and body again, so they truly feel like they are living in their bodies and being present. Therapy is a collaborative process, so there is a level of trust that must go into each client and each session. My areas of interest as a counselor are trauma-focused, veterans, medical trauma, depression/anxiety, substance use, and sexual assault survivors.
Hi, I'm Dr G. You're likely here because you're feeling alone, stuck, hurting, or overwhelmed...I get it. My niche is working with the unique mental health concerns that affect marginalized/minoritized, first generation/immigrant, LGBTQ, non-traditional, and migrant college student populations. I have worked in multiple clinical settings and at several universities (including UC, Berkeley, Cal State University, Long Beach, Idaho State University, and Saint Edward's University in Austin, TX) with a diverse range of clients and presenting concerns. I have extensive training incorporating CBT strategies in treatment and providing trauma-informed care for concerns like anxiety, depression, life transitions, homesickness, and navigating complex relationships. I work to build trust with my clients in order to form a collaborative dynamic that focuses on growing self-understanding while building tools to meet therapeutic goals. The specific approach I use is grounded in evidence-based treatments, empathy, and a multicultural perspective that honors how identities and social contexts shape our experiences.
