Life's unpredictability and challenges can lead to uncertainty, fear, and stress. Many clients who seek my psychotherapy services experience stress, anxiety, or depression, often stemming from life transitions, grief, or struggles with interpersonal relationships and self-identity. I have over 6 years of experience treating a wide range of mental health issues and have work with college students dealing with homesickness and veterans. I utilize evidence-based approaches and humor in sessions to foster positivity, confidence, and hope. In our sessions, clients find a welcoming, supportive, and comfortable environment where they feel understood and heard. I believe building rapport and trust with my clients is imperative to the therapeutic work, relationship, and achieving set goals in therapy. Reach out to me to see if we may be a good fit to work together.

The best mental health care occurs when the patient's needs are prioritized and deeply integrated into the treatment plan. Whether you're dealing with anxious thoughts, phobias, learning difficulties, physical symptoms tied to mental health, depression, grief, or feeling like a dark cloud is always blocking out your light, help is available. By creating a judgment-free environment that fosters safe and open communication, we’ll work together to carefully assess your or your loved one’s unique situation and develop the most effective care plan. I believe the key to addressing many unwanted feelings and behaviors lies in combining holistic and pharmacological approaches, including modifying one's environment, engaging in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and using medications to address chemical imbalances in the brain. As your provider, I will work diligently to create a personalized medication plan that alleviates your challenges while minimizing tolerable side effects. Additionally, using evidence-based measurement tools, we can track treatment effectiveness and make necessary adjustments along the way. Hello! My practice is focused on complex, chronic mental health challenges, especially borderline personality and chronic depression (dysthymia). The clients I work with often grapple with isolation, mood instability, a nagging sense of emptiness, and recurring relationship struggles. Substance use may be present, but is rarely the core issue. Many have tried therapy before, and have perhaps found some benefit, but remain skeptical about whether it can truly bring the change they seek. My goal is to help you identify deep patterns that have subtly narrowed your options in life, challenge and overcome these patterns, connect more easily with others, and generally feel more at home in the world. I have been fortunate enough to train in mentalization-based treatment and schema therapy, both of which have been recognized as evidence-based treatments for complex, chronic mental health problems. I work to provide a safe, supportive, and inquisitive environment in which you can share your experiences, feel heard, and try out new ways of understanding yourself and relating to others.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 10 years of experience working in the field. For the past 7 years I have been working at a college campus in Minnesota focusing on working with BIPOC students. I have worked in various community settings as well as private practice. I have worked with individuals struggling with adjustment and mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety. I am aware of how difficult it can be for college students to transition to adulthood as well as manage high stress of school, family and work.

My training experiences as a clinical psychologist have spanned a broad range of treatment settings (inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization) and treatment populations (adults, adolescents, and children). I have worked with many types of people throughout my career: from high-functioning professionals who are experiencing job-related stress, to individuals suffering from chronic and persistent mental illness. Above all, I specialize in helping people heal “relational trauma.” This term is a broad one, and difficult to succinctly describe (but I’ll try my best) —People who have endured relational trauma oftentimes have a childhood marked by emotional misattunement (others not correctly reading and responding to their emotional needs), emotional neglect, emotional or physical abuse, and confusing relationships with others. Typically, those with relational trauma have parents who might have been less warm, more emotionally enmeshed or punitive, or simply too consumed with their own issues or trauma to correctly “attune” to the needs of the child. Sometimes, this trauma results from some major personal or family trauma (e.g., divorce, death, major illness of a family member). So how does relational trauma affect us in adulthood? This can show up in many ways, some of which include: * Difficulty regulating emotions (e.g., feeling constantly overwhelmed by anxiety and fear) * Chronic shame and guilt * Constantly “beating” oneself up or putting oneself down * Difficulty depending on others (e.g., emotionally) * Discomfort with emotional intimacy and problems maintaining healthy relationships * Feeling “empty” on the inside and struggling with identity issues * Worrying about interpersonal abandonment, rejection, criticism, etc. * Excessive need for approval, being overly submissive or suggestible I would like to offer hope — the mental health field has begun to increasingly appreciate the effect of childhood on adulthood. Therapy can help to heal the pain that these experiences have caused, and help you free yourself from repetitive patterns rooted in these experiences (e.g., repeatedly choosing “unhealthy” relationships) I graduated with my PhD in clinical psychology from the APA-accredited clinical psychology program at the University of North Texas, and completed the APA-accredited clinical psychology internship program at the Institute of Living (IOL) in Hartford, Connecticut. At the IOL, part of my primary clinical responsibilities included co-facilitating daily inpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) psychotherapy groups, in addition to completing psychological testing and providing individual psychotherapy services. My time at the IOL offered me unique and intensive training in psychodynamic theory and technique, which still strongly influences my clinical work to this day. After completing internship, I completed postdoctoral training in the psychiatry department at the University of Minnesota, where I received specialized training in the assessment and treatment of psychosis, personality issues, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and severe depression. Prior to my internship, my clinical training in the Yale School of Medicine and at the Yale New Haven Hospital Intensive Outpatient Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program provided me with extensive psychotherapy training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. While at the Yale School of Medicine, I also received unique training in mindfulness-based interventions, which also strongly influences my approach to treatment. The point in sharing all of this is that I have lived in many places, been exposed to many different types of training and experiences, and have a deep passion for learning and helping people. I believe that my training and skills within the realms of individual therapy, group therapy, and psychological testing helps me understand and connect with clients at a deep and profound level.

At different times in one's life, painful feelings such as anxiety, depression or low self-esteem may be present. Life stressors, complicated interpersonal relationships and more can overpower one's coping resources. At this time, seeking help in the form of therapy can be beneficial. Are you interested in moving beyond feelings of sadness and worry? Are you looking to create more meaningful relationships in your life? Are you seeking more meaning and purpose in your life? If so, counseling can be helpful in starting on this journey. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor and work to create a warm and supportive space in which my clients feel safe to explore difficult concerns. I bring engaged listening, thoughtful questions and an outside perspective to the therapeutic relationship. I work with my clients to identify hopes and goals for the process of therapy. Based on these identified goals, I choose tools and techniques that I believe would be beneficial. I bring a humanistic/client-centered orientation to therapy and incorporate mind-body, interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral approaches in my work.
