Hi there! My name is Amanda and I’m grateful for your courage in taking this step. The college years can be a very stressful time due to all of the changes and transitions happening in your life. Whether you're looking for just a few sessions or long-term therapy, I believe healing can happen with the right knowledge, hard work and laughter along the way. I use EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, and life coaching in my therapy sessions. If you've read this far, I encourage you to reach out to see if we are a good fit.
I'm passionate about working with college students, especially international students, students of color, and first-generation students. These students are often interested in exploring their identities and navigating life transitions. They may also be looking for support with academic stress and how to live according to their values. I have previous experience working in a college counseling setting, and I'm eager to connect with students who are seeking support. I am psychodynamically trained and have focused much of my learning and clinical practice within a social justice framework. Before moving to the US, I lived and studied in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Therefore, both Eastern and Western philosophies and values influence and inform my perspectives and the integrative approaches that I bring to my work.
I offer therapy sessions in both English and Mandarin. I was born and raised in China, and later came to the U.S. for grad school. My personal experience in navigating the challenges of life transitions, cultures, and expectations inspired me to create a safe, gentle space where you can be heard and understood. I’m here to listen to your stories and unspoken emotions, and help you find your true voice. Together, we’ll explore patterns that may be holding you back and gently uncover the myths that no longer serve you. I’m not here to judge or talk down to you—I’ll be patient and supportive as you grow. I’ll celebrate your progress because I genuinely care, and I hope to make this journey one of curiosity, compassion, and even joy as you step into the best version of yourself.
Lighthouse Counseling & Sand Play Training Center is an outpatient facility providing support through scheduled appointments only for families, children, couples, and individuals. We also offer workshops and groups for individuals seeking community and support. Sand Play therapy allows the person to tap into the psyche. Through the use of symbolic figures, a person is able to create in the sand tray stories which examine their wounds, the effects from those wounds, and the possibilities for resolution. The practitioner is then able to help a person to connect insights to feelings and begin the journey toward healing. Through Sand Play, the adult client is able to build the skills necessary to avoid the problematic patterns of the past. Children’s thoughts and feelings are given a voice through symbolic play, enabling them to resolve their issues in a language they understand. “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) integrates elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies. EMDR is an information processing therapy and uses an eight phase approach ….After EMDR processing, clients generally report that the emotional distress related to the memory has been eliminated, or greatly decreased and that they have gained important cognitive insights. Importantly, these emotional and cognitive changes usually result in spontaneous behavioral and personal change, which are further enhanced with standard EMDR procedures.” The development of the addictive personality is not an overnight event. Often times, an addicted person will have a history of trauma and grief. It is critical to have a comprehensive treatment plan with a therapist who specializes in addictions work in order to make a full recovery. We treat addictions to illegal drugs, alcohol and prescription medications as well as sexual addictions.
You're studying nursing because you want to make a difference in the world. But it doesn't feel like you thought it would. You are faced with challenges in clinical that were never talked about in the classroom. By the end of the day, you're numb and exhausted. You spend your nights looking up how to transfer to a different major. You are spending your weekends watching the same show on repeat and wondering if this is really the college experience everyone talks about. Therapy designed specifically for nursing students focuses on creating a restorative space where you can finally slow down and process the emotions you push aside to make it through the day. We will talk about how to maintain self-care and balance while you study one of the hardest majors and learn the coping tools and boundaries needed to support ongoing success in your profession. Hello! I’m Katherine. Therapy is a chance to have someone outside of your daily life help you process and navigate your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you can openly discuss even the toughest parts of your life. I have experience in many areas, but I especially love working with life transitions and changes, relationship dynamics, and self-discovery. As a woman of color, I’m also passionate about addressing racial identity issues and breaking unhealthy patterns with other BIPOC individuals. My goal is to help you find your voice and create a life that feels best for you. In our work together, I hope you not only find solutions to whatever brought you to therapy but also learn more about yourself and how you want your life to be. We’ll go at your pace, with you taking the lead. After all, this is your story. If this sounds like what you’re looking for in therapy, I’d love to start working with you!
The road to self discovery is scary, and you are taking the first steps in seeking out the right therapist for you. It’s an important investment and you want to make sure you find just the right connection. My approach is deeply personal. Working with each person to learn and identify how they are impacted by the stories of their life and their history. In doing so, we are able to bring out what is truly possible. I believe strongly in the power of our stories. From a very young age, we all start learning things about ourselves and our world. These “life lessons” start to turn into the stories we repeat to ourselves over and over again. They become who we are. Those stories are not always nice and they hold us back. But most importantly, they are often not true! They are the stories we created when we were young and we have retold them to ourselves over and over again in a weird game of telephone with one player.
