Hello, my name is Heather Pederson. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Diego and am so glad you are here. Seeking help can potentially feel daunting, exposing, and overwhelming. It can also be our first steps toward repair, healing, and growth. I have found that people are so very strong, courageous, and hard-working, and still need some help when things get hard. I believe therapy can be a unique chance to discover parts of ourselves we forgot about, allow healing for the tender parts, and find new ways of interacting with ourselves and our loved ones that allow for deeper understanding and connection. I work with individuals and couples who often struggle with: a feeling of something between angry, sad, and fear that doesn’t have a name, as well as feelings of overwhelm, worry and stress that gets between them and their preferred lives. I seek to create opportunities in therapy to connect more deeply with the truest parts of yourself so that you can then connect more deeply with your purpose, values, and trusted others. I am trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (Externship with Sue Johnson, Core Skills to become Certified in progress), a Certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, Trauma Informed Care, and a graduate of Bethel Seminary San Diego with an M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy. Please contact me with any questions you might have regarding therapy. I work with college students (extensive experience working on college campuses), couples, individuals, premarital/pre-engagement, relational distress, trauma, and anxiety.
My name is Blanca Martinez Walter and I am a licensed Latina holistic and spiritual therapist, living in Denver, Colorado. I am licensed in both the state of California and Colorado. The fancy title I have earned is Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but I prefer the other title (spiritual therapist). I blend my experience working with Latinx in psychotherapy with my deep interest in spirituality and the mind, body, and soul connection. My therapeutic approach is holistic, incorporating intuition, signs that universe sends you, body awareness, inner child work, and a comprehensive understanding of your past and present experiences to understand how you came to be. In my practice I work with first generation latinas/latinos seeking change, wanting to get more attuned to their intuition, open to looking at past patterns and being challenged, all the while doing so with a therapist that has a cultural background similar to theirs. Common issues addressed in my practice include the effects of childhood parentification, perfectionism, self-care issues, life transitions, grief, relationship challenges, and other issues unique to the first-generation experience. As your therapist, I will be your cheerleader and I will also be that person that challenges you and disagrees with you, because without discomfort there is no growth. I balance both humor, gentleness and disagreement in my therapeutic sessions. And yes, I speak Spanglish. I offer a free 15 min consultation to determine what your needs are going to be, what you are looking for in treatment and with that determine whether we would be a good match. I can offer a special rate for college students of $90 for 45 minutes. *If you are dealing with suicidal thoughts, it may be determined that telehealth is not the option.

Many people come to therapy feeling disconnected from their bodies, their relationships, or a clear sense of who they are... old wounds can show up through self-doubt, overthinking, numbness, or a feeling of not quite belonging. My clients are often introspective, sensitive, or creative souls that come to me during times of transition, burnout, relationship challenges, recovery from addiction, or when seeking a deeper connection to themselves and their purpose. Our therapy process will invite you to slow down, listen inwardly, and repair the hurt that restricts your vitality and authentic self-expression. I specialize in integrative therapy that blends relational talk therapy with body awareness, breath, inner child work, and earth-based practices. I draw from IFS, somatic therapies, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, while also incorporating ACT and CBT to support aligned action. My approach is non-pathologizing and collaborative. Our work will effectively move you towards: greater clarity and confidence in your choices; Emotional resilience and self-compassion; A more authentic connection to yourself and others; A sense of wholeness, direction, and purpose. If it feels like we could be a fit, I would love to hear from you. Reach out to schedule an initial session.
Overwhelmed? Anxious? Hopeless? You've come to the right place. Congratulations on taking a first step toward healing. I am a licensed psychologist specializing in treating trauma, mood disorders, and behavioral problems. I work with pre-teens through adults in family therapy, couples therapy, or individual therapy. I have a passion for empowering my clients to understand themselves better, to heal from pain, and to thrive in life. Call for a free 15-minute phone consultation (214) 247-6410.
I specialize in anxiety, depression, body image issues, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder & college adjustment/ academic stress. My therapeutic approach is practical and flexible, grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy. I find that people often assume that they “should” know how to approach therapy. In reality, the process may not be quite so simple and may feel confusing. Thus, I frequently have conversations with my clients about how to use sessions and ongoing dialogues about our work together.
As a therapist, I’m here to be supportive of your goals and help you feel confident in taking your next step towards rediscovering you. I believe in being authentic and invite you to come as you are by being your true self. I’ll help challenge your perspective and reframe any unhelpful thinking that may be getting in the way of your life. Life is already difficult with enough uncertainty in the world, but having a safe place to talk freely about yourself and the things that impact you is greatly needed. My clients are typically women, BIPOC, LGBTQ and others that are looking for a place to take the mask off, improve their self-identity and esteem, improve their relationships, and take steps toward building the best versions of themselves.
We at Affirming Therapy Center are offering TeleTherapy services (by phone or video sessions for individuals and by video sessions for relationship therapy). If you have circumstances where TeleTherapy is too limiting for your mental health care needs, we are also offering the option of in-person sessions, along with additional safety protocol and procedures in place. We understand that you may feel anxiety and stress from the uncertainty of your situation, or depression from isolation, and that you may be experiencing relationship challenges or struggling with being single in a time of social distancing. If you need additional support and are looking to start therapy, please reach out to us. We are here for you! Move from what’s now to what’s next. If you are like most people, there’s no magic moment when you find yourself saying, “I’m ready for therapy.” But there comes a time when you begin to get tired of living with things the way they are, and enough is enough. If this is where you find yourself now, you are ready for what’s next. Like any first step on a new path, the beginning of the therapeutic journey may feel unfamiliar. We know, because we have traveled this road to find the whole places in ourselves. If you are looking for more or longing for change, we can help you start the process and walk that path. Visiting the Affirming Therapy Center website indicates that you are seeking a more fulfilling and satisfying life. We can guide you as we move forward to your better place. I work with a diverse clientele and specialize in providing culturally responsive and identity-affirming psychotherapy. The clients I work with often identify as first-gen students, artists, performers, educators, and professionals, as well as those who have experienced trauma in relationships or who have a history of family cycles of addiction and drug use. I use a relational-psychodynamic and liberatory approach to therapy; incorporating mindfulness techniques that support you to build awareness of what is happening between your mind and body. A strong therapeutic relationship where you feel safe to explore thoughts and feelings is essential and building trust to do so takes time. I will support you in the therapy to navigate communicating what is happening for you in the therapy so that you can then apply a deepened awareness of yourself to interactions and events in everyday life. Feelings and thoughts can be hard to identify, and having time set aside to delve into this process can be transformative. Your participation in the therapy by bringing in your lived experiences will help you to deepen your insights and understanding, which will inform your decisions and choices in life moving forward.
If you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, shame, loneliness or want to better understand yourself, therapy can help. Do you feel stuck? Have you had difficult experiences in your past that are emotionally overwhelming? Have trouble sleeping? Are you hard on yourself? Feel guilt or shame? Overwhelmed? Irritable? Angry? Do you seek freedom and joy? If so, you don't have to work through these struggles alone. It would be my honor to support you. I believe our wounds are often the most beautiful parts of ourselves. Let me join you, as "Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter." I create a warm, non-judgmental space where you are safe to talk and feel. I draw upon humanistic, existential, and psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy. I utilize EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness to help deepen processing. I use elements of positive psychology to empower your strengths while fostering growth and creating change. My hope is for you to feel seen, heard and accepted, no matter the experience or emotion. I am here to support you through your challenges with wholehearted compassion. If you feel like you could use a little more support, I'd love to work with you. It would be my honor to help you achieve your goals and live your best life.
I work best with students who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in their own head. Many of the students I support struggle with overthinking, self-doubt, stress, past experiences that still affect them, or feeling pressure to hold everything together. They’re often high-functioning on the outside but feel exhausted or disconnected inside. I offer a calm, supportive space to help students feel more grounded, understand what they’re going through, and build skills to feel better over time.

One of the greatest gifts I've received in my 19+ years of private practice, has been to witness individuals as they move towards healing, and discover a more fulfilling, whole life. The hold an eating disorder, anxiety or trauma can have on a life is profound. To watch the grip loosen, and healing emerge, is very moving. I enjoy learning, and collecting new tools and skills to help my clients. After I obtained my MSW from New York University's School of Social Work, I completed postgraduate training in eating disorders and body image issues at the Women's Therapy Centre Institute, and in Trauma Studies at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. In addition, I completed a three-year training in Somatic Experiencing, and have assisted at professional trainings, helping other therapists to learn the model. I've led eating disorder groups for New York University's Counseling Center and various non-profit organizations, and have served as both a lecturer and group case consultant on eating disorders and trauma at postgraduate institutes in New York City. Interested in creating a culturally and spiritually sensitive practice, I completed a two-year program studying the world's major faith traditions, in an effort to better understand my clients from all backgrounds. I do not take any insurance. My fees range from $150-175 based on need, and I do not presently have a sliding scale beyond that range. If you have questions, or would like to request an appointment, please feel free to contact me. I offer ONLINE ONLY therapy in CA, CO and NY.
My life experiences have led me to become a mental health psychotherapist. I understand many of the struggles we encounter in life and how important it is to seek support as we try to learn how to change. I treat all people with genuine care and compassion without judgment. I am real, direct, engaged and easy to connect with. My strength is in building trusting relationships in order to work through life’s challenges. I’m warm, have a great sense of humor (which can be a healthy healing agent when appropriate) and has a core belief that we can improve our lives through therapy. I will guide you to find your inner strength and solutions so you feel better about yourself whether you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, specific habits and behaviors. I have a diverse background of work and life experience. Previously I worked for high-tech companies as an expert in marketing communications. My business experience taught me much about human behavior and managing for successful outcomes using coping skills, assertiveness, and good decision-making. I have also practiced as a trained life coach, which I weave into my therapy practice when appropriate. I believe mental health is the foundation for health itself and worth your investment of time.
