Therapists for college students near 94110
Many of the students I work best with seem like they’re keeping up on the outside, but inside feel anxious, overwhelmed, or burned out. You might be juggling academic pressure, relationships, or big life decisions while feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward. Many have tried to push through or talk things out, but still feel caught in the same patterns. If you’re looking to better understand yourself and feel more balanced, supported, and grounded, we may be a good fit.
At the Heart is a community counseling center whose goal is to bridge the gap that exists in access to services and to help heal our community, families, and individuals. All members of our community need respect and acceptance. Our counselors provide a caring and non-judgemental environment for clients to get the support and encouragement they need, when they need it. We provide both traditional/secular counseling and Christian based counseling, determined by a client's preference. We meet our clients where they are at and work collaboratively to help each client achieve their individual goals. We have several different kinds of providers. We have a Peer or Lay Counseling Division which is an every day person that is passionate and has a heart for helping others, life experience, and has completed a 13 week (40 hour) counseling course through At the Heart. The course addresses depression, trauma, anxiety, suicidality, grief/loss, child abuse, domestic violence, addiction, and mindfulness. These providers could be nurses, teachers, stay at home parents, retirees, and so on. They have an open heart and a willingness to listen and encourage. We have a Professional Division which involves Trainees, Associates/Interns, and Pastors. Trainees are Graduate/Doctoral school students in the field of counseling that need to acquire hours towards graduation and licensure. Associate and Interns are Post-Masters/Doctoral Graduates that are accruing hours towards licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Professional Clinical Counseling. All of our counseling staff receive weekly case consultation and supervision by a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has special training in supervising non-licensed clinicians. Be assured, you will be provided with quality care and support. It is a team approach. Contact us today to speak with a scheduler who will match you with a counselor who is best suited to meet your needs.

Are there times you feel stuck, overwhelmed, tired, or confused? Are there times you feel lonely, disconnected, and unheard even when you are surrounded by people? Do you have many expectations or pressure placed on you by friends, family, society, and even yourself? Do you question or blame yourself when things are not going “right”? Sometimes we struggle with these difficult thoughts and feelings and don’t know what to do. And that’s okay! You are not alone! You don’t have to have everything figured out! It is okay to feel many conflicting feelings at the same time, perhaps some more than others. It can seem scary, painful, and difficult to begin your journey of self-exploration. I will be here to support and guide you on your journey toward growth and healing. I am passionate about creating a safe and affirming place that offers authenticity, humor, and genuineness for you to share your stories. I believe in healing and growth through processing and making meanings of your experiences, recognizing your strengths, embracing your identities, nurturing your spirituality, and empowering you to make intentional choices. I will support you in learning skills to manage difficult thoughts and emotions, communicate and express yourselves, establish healthy boundaries, and navigate towards your goals. I am a licensed psychologist with strong specialties in treating folks with eating disorders and anxiety. I also have extensive experience working with people with depression and relationship concerns. I am a compassionate, direct therapist. I work collaboratively with my patients to set and achieve their goals. These goals often include increased self-acceptance, as well as changes in mood, thought patterns, and behaviors. My therapy is rooted in empirically based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic theory, and neuroscience research. I develop customized strategies to help my patients manage painful thoughts and emotions, change unhelpful behaviors, and increase motivation. I also help cultivate self-compassion and self-understanding. Self-understanding promotes self-acceptance. When you allow yourself to be who you are, your inner critic has no leverage, and you move more easily toward a meaningful and fulfilling life. For most of my patients, this is the ultimate goal. Please go to my website for more information. My blog describes many of the concepts and strategies I use.
We provide clinical outpatient treatment programs to young adults on a college track with mental health and substance use disorders. Our Intensive Outpatient Program uses evidence-based practices and peer-based support to help students heal and ultimately thrive in school and life. We believe college students deserve mental health treatment options that work with their collegiate lifestyle. Students in need of support can choose from our in-person and virtual Intensive Outpatient Programs for mental health or substance use treatment, available to all young adults in California on a college track. Developed in partnership with students, universities and clinical experts, these programs make it possible for students to work through their challenges while staying in school, so they can thrive through graduation and beyond.
We often face difficult hurdles in life where we are unsure of what path to take next. Life is not to be navigated alone and it takes bravery to ask for help. I believe finding the right therapist you are comfortable with is essential for growth and healing. My approach focuses on compassion and self-reflection as we navigate through some of those difficult life hurdles. I believe that therapy should be designed to help each individual based on their needs. Therefore, each session will be designed especially for you as we focus on your treatment goals. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and military members and their families, in a range of settings including psychiatric in-patient facilities, individuals incarcerated by law enforcement, foster care agencies, Child Welfare Services, and in homes / communities. My areas of focus include adjustment, mood disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, trauma, relationship issues, suicidal thoughts and feelings, self-harm, life transitions and parenthood. As a military veteran, former foster youth, and now a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, I have learned that everyone experiences pain and feelings differently and with the right support and skills, therapeutic goals can be met. I am committed to supporting my clients toward a path of empowerment, self-awareness, understanding, and compassion to my clients while helping them to identify and reach their therapeutic goals.

Are you experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, meltdowns, shutdowns, “stuckness”, or dissociation? Are you grappling with personal, relational, work/study, social anxiety, or existential stress? My therapy practice is grounded in integrative Somatic Psychotherapy, Multicultural Attachment-Based and Systemic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and expressive arts. In our sessions, we can use evidence-based techniques with a holistic body-mind focus, as well as creative tools and expression, depending on what resonates in our work together.

Are you struggling with intense anxiety, frequent worry, or obsessive thoughts? Do you avoid important activities because of your anxiety? Do you find it difficult to enjoy life and pursue goals because of these problems? We all experience anxiety sometimes, but if it interferes with your social life, daily functioning, or work I want you to know there is hope. I'm an experienced psychologist with a passion for helping people suffering from anxiety, worry, OCD, insomnia, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and depression. In the context of a caring and supportive relationship, let's work together on tools to combat these problems. Research has found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Therapy are effective treatments for anxiety and depression. The CBT techniques I utilize will help you feel happier, content, less worried and anxious. Clients who are willing to work hard experience improvements in just a few months, and often retain these gains after therapy has ended.
